Biodanza
is based on the South American Biodanza method of 'Movement
Full of Meaning'. It is a system of human integration that
promotes health, happiness and well-being through music,
movement and emotion, working in a group setting. Structured
workshops, directed by a facilitator, take you through the
exercises working with yourself, others and the whole group.
The exercises are taken from everyday life. Anyone can do
them - in their own way. From stepping, walking, sharing,
breathing, laughing, vibrating, expressing, relating, unwinding
vitality, sexuality and creativity . . . The experience
of the workshops promotes and amplifies your perception
and consciousness "to help you become the protagonist
of your own life" (Rolando Toro, creator of the Biodanza
system).
It is about falling in love with life. Falling in love with
yourself, and finding the courage to look at yourself with
respect and without criticism. It is about finding the pleasure
in life again. It's simple and immediate. Biodanza works
directly on opening people's sense of joy. The music, the
exercises and the atmosphere of the class work together.
Ten minutes into the class, people have already found their
centre of innocence. This is the source of people's own
inner joy, a joy which is similar to that of the two-year-old
- confident, strong and from the heart. It releases the
barriers that adults create in their minds. Biodanza cuts
out the adult mind, therefore finding joy. It works with
that joy and with regular classes this grows and matures.
Over time people find life becomes a pleasure again.
All types of
people of all age groups come. Single people, married couples
and stressed out business executives. And all of them benefit
from the type of healing found in the Biodanza process.
Biodanza helps restore self esteem and self confidence.
This is not created through verbalisation but rather through
exercises which bring it out naturally. It is a strong,
sound system of human development which has been developed
over the past forty years and is now in over twenty countries
world wide.
It works through
five lines of vivencia. Each class works with all five lines
- vitality, sexuality, affectivity, creativity and transcendence
and awakens the essential instincts needed for a healthy
life.
Biodanza is
facilitated in South Africa by Carolina Churba, a member
of the Rolando Toro School of Biodanza in England.
