The
basic theory of chiropractic is that "subluxations"
are the cause of most medical problems. A "subluxation"
is a misalignment of the spine that allegedly interferes
with nerve signals from the brain. Chiropractors think that
by adjusting the misalignments they can thereby restore
the nerve signals and cure health problems.
Chiropractic health care is many times the first alternative
treatment people seek, generally because traditional treatment
had not alleviated specific conditions or symptoms.
Chiropractic
belief is that the spinal column and its condition are crucial
to good health and well-being. This same concern with spinal
position and adjustment was also practiced by ancient Egyptians,
Chinese and Assyrians.
If any of the
skeletal bones, particularly the vertebrae of the spine
are displaced, or not in perfect alignment, the central
nervous system can not work optimally. Impeded energy flow
can cause numerous health problems such as headaches, stomach
problems, cramps or breathing disorders such as asthma.
Also this misalignment in skeletal bones can cause pain
in the body or muscles. This energy blockage is frequently
caused from physical trauma to the body, this affecting
the skeletal structure first, then the nerves and then finally
a person's health or energy. With the nerves affected, as
well overall energy the natural healing power of the body
is limited or restricted.
Traditional
chiropractic treatment generally involves physical adjustments
or manipulations. These adjustments attempt to correct distortions
or misalignment of the spine or other skeletal bones, and
in doing so, restore flexibility to the spine and joints.
This relieves stress on the nerves and nervous system, allowing
energy to flow correctly to all parts of the body prompting
healing in damaged areas of the body. Chiropractors are
also concerned with the state of muscle tissue and condition.
Frequently a chiropractic office uses ultrasound or massage
to help relax tense muscles holding skeletal bones in misalignment.
Today many
people use chiropractic in conjunction with more traditional
medical treatments. Chiropractors may also use other alternative
approaches to good health as acupuncture, ultrasound equipment,
nutritional supplements, homeopathy, biofeedback, or massage
to complement their practice.
B.E.S.T. stands
for Bioenergetic Synchronisation Technique. B.E.S.T. is
a gentle non intrusive, non manipulative chiropractic technique
for all ages, from newborn to the elderly, for any condition
from headaches, back pain, indigestion, and cancer to general
non well being. B.E.S.T. is a holistic program for promoting
and creating a state of health, easing symptoms and balancing
the many systems of the body.
B.E.S.T. is
about clearing the patterns in the nervous system, about
unresolved past issues or ongoing ones which the body reacts
to inappropriately, using non manipulative techniques. The
system can be updated so that those past traumas either
physical or emotional will no longer trigger reaction in
the present time. The result is a body that functions more
appropriately in its actual environment. Clear the barriers
and the body returns to health through healing by its own
power.
"Beginning
with the Chiropractic principle of balance in the spine
leads to balance in your nervous system and therefore balance
in expression of life. I added bioenergetics, synchronising
techniques, chakra awareness, nutrition, life philosophies
and many other ideas that worked. The result was a synthesis
of approaches dedicated to returning people to balance and
control of themselves and their lives".
BODY STRESS
RELEASE
Body Stress
Release is a holistic therapy aimed at enabling the body's
natural healing mechanisms to function at an optimal level.
Working with the body's natural striving to be stress and
pain-free, it releases muscle tension causing many ailments
including aches and pains and more serious conditions
Using the body
as a biofeedback mechanism, the practitioner locates areas
where stress has become "locked-in" in the physical
form of muscle tension. The classical symptoms are common
ailments such as backache, neck pain, headaches, stiff joints,
numbness, recurring injuries/cramping or a general awareness
of the body not being 100%.
With the client
lying fully clothed, the practitioner applies a light but
precise stimulation to various points. The stimulation releases
the muscle from cramping the nerves causing the discomfort
and aching and so allows the reconnection of the neural
communications that controls the body's in-built healing
mechanisms.
The causes
of body stress may be defined as mechanical (i.e. bad posture,
inappropriate exercise or sudden accident), emotional/mental
(i.e. fear of the future, pressure at work, disintegrating
relationships) or chemical (i.e. pollutants, food allergies).
In life, any
type of stress has a physical impact on the body in the
form of "locked-in" tensions, with it being generally
accepted that our physical, mental and emotional aspects
are completely interconnected. In view of this, Body Stress
Release, by helping to unlock the physical effects of that
impact, also has a positive effect on the mental and emotional
aspects of the person, thus leading to an overall improvement
in health with a heightened sense of well-being.
Body Stress
Release has successfully helped many people with a wide
variety of problems. After being given help in unlocking
the body's healing communication system through this therapy,
the realisation that the body is healing itself can be a
powerful self-empowering experience.
Chiropractic
therapy is both a science and an art specialize in treating
a variety of muscles and joint-related disorders using,
as their Chiropractors manipulation or adjustment of the
spine and joints main therapy,
The science
element of this therapy relates to diagnostic techniques
based on those used in orthodox medicine, involving current
scientific and medical knowledge. The manipulation carried
out by a skilled practitioner, on the other hand, is an
art. It includes not only manipulation itself, but also
use of the hands to locate areas of the spine, or joints,
that require manipulation. A chiropractor's aim is to treat
the fundamental cause of a patient's problem, and not just
the symptoms of pain or discomfort that he or she feels.
This is achieved by correcting abnormal structural relationships
and allowing the body to heal itself.
Chiropractic
and other medical systems
Although patients
commonly consult a chiropractor when they have general musculo-skeletal
and, especially, back problems, a chiropractor also has
the responsibility of looking at and diagnosing all a patient's
symptoms and referring them for additional or more appropriate
treatment if necessary.
Most patients
visit a chiropractor's office as a result of word of mouth
recommendations from other patients. In more and more cases,
however, orthodox medical practitioners are referring patients
to chiropractors for treatment.
Chiropractors
are pleased to work with the orthodox medical profession
for the benefit of their patients, and they are careful
to keep the patient's family doctor or specialist informed
of the treatment and progress, when asked. In some cases,
it is also necessary for the chiropractor to refer the patient
to a specialist for further tests and investigations, for
instance if chiropractic examination reveals a problem that
was not evident at first. Unfortunately, not all physicians
are glad to work with chiropractors in this way, and sometimes
because of this problem that would normally be easy for
a chiropractor to treat is left untreated for a long time
so that in the end, treatment is only of limited value to
the patient.
There are various
techniques that a Chiropractor can use to remove the nerve
interference that causes the a Subluxation. The choice of
technique is usually decided upon after a thorough Chiropractic
examination is undertaken, to determine which kind of Subluxation
exists.
There are two
kinds of Subluxations that exist:
The first and most vital kind of subluxation is called the
Facilitated Subluxation, where the nerves and spinal cord
fibers are actually stretched, twisted or scarred. This
causes irritation and malfunction of the nervous system.
The facilitated subluxation is adjusted with extremely gentle
pressure along the spine. This type of subluxation is most
likely associated with emotional, mental and chemical stress
from which the body-mind could not recover.
The second
kind of subluxation is the Structural Subluxation, where
a vertebra is misaligned. This may cause a pinching or crushing
effect on the nervous system that controls the functions
of your body. The structural subluxations will be gently
and precisely realigned with the rest of the spine. Sometimes
a small click may be heard when this kind of subluxation
is adjusted. A structural subluxation is usually caused
by a mechanical or physical stress from which the body could
not recover, like a fall, car accident, sport, poor posture
or bad work environment.
In either situation, Chiropractors do not treat the symptom;
instead they address the nerve interference which is the
cause of one's dis-ease.
