The Twenty-Four Feng Shui Stars
In an earlier section we saw how each
division of a site had its own portent, depending on
the direction it faced. In this section, we shall see
how each of the twenty-four compass points has its own
star, or portent, depending on the orientation. The
twenty-four stars always follow the same order, but
the position of the first star depends on orientation
of the site. The number of such orientations is eight
– one for each trigram – not twenty-four,
as might be supposed. Despite this, there are irregularities
in establishing the position of the first star.Once
the positions of the twenty-four stars have been established,
the portents for each of the twenty-four divisions of
compass can be shown. The effect of this is that more
precise portents can be given for each direction. Thus,
in cases when rooms are not aligned exactly with the
Eight Directions, portents can be made for each room’s
precise orientation.
First, the names of the twenty-four
stars and their portents :

5. Weeping and Wailing Disastrous
6. Orphan Disastrous
7. Glory and Prosperity Excellent for business and financial
matters
8. Sorrowful Parting Separation from loved ones; emigration
9. Debauchery A scandalous life-style
10. Relatives in Marriage Fortune through marriage
11. Joyous Pleasure Great fortune
12. Disruption Difficulties with plans
13. Prosperity and Wealth Great fortune; success in
business14. Happiness and Virtue Happiness, but
not necessarily wealth
15. Sickness and Distress Impending illness
16. Entering Wealth The promise of a new career
17. Lengthy Illness As the name suggests
18. Joyous Proclamation Success in examinations, or
official honors
